Another week, another win, and another Thursday-night pick. Don’t miss your early opportunity.
1. Philadelphia over Houston – The Eagles have taken care of business in most games this season, and the specter of Michael Vick running loose against a porous Texans defense is just too appealing to pass up, given the options before us this week. The Thursday games have generally favored the home teams this season (especially when the home teams are good), and that points to the Eagles as well. Now’s the time to capitalize on taking a good team.
2. Green Bay over San Francisco – We’ve used the Packers already this season, but if you haven’t now’s the perfect time. San Francisco will be playing on a short week, and star RB Frank Gore is out. Those two reasons match up well with the fact that the Pack is far better than the Niners.
3. Seattle over Carolina – This pick is well off the radar, but Seattle’s home-field advantage should shake up rookie QB Jimmy Clausen enough to let the Seahawks get the win. Seattle has lost home games against two good teams (the Giants and Chiefs), but in general the Seahawks have taken care of business in Qwest Field. So if you’re desperate for a pick, Seattle is the way to go.
Traps to avoid: Miami over Cleveland, Minnesota over Buffalo – The Dolphins continued their strong play on the road last week, but they have really struggled at home. Cleveland isn’t great, but the Browns are good enough to take advantage if Miami’s home-field woes continues. Minnesota, meanwhile, faces a Bills team that has been in just about every game this year and has played at a mediocre level – same as the Vikings – for a month or more. There’s no reason to risk your season on a matchup that’s actually a toss-up.
