Crazy Kicker of Week 8

Steve Weatherford

We support shenanigans when it comes to kickers, whether they’re successful or not. So the most controversial kicker play of the season gets Jets P Steve Weatherford this award. In the first quarter, the Jets faced 4th-and-18 at their own 20-yard-line. They call a fake punt that sent Weatherford around the right end. Weatherford sprinted and then dove for the marker, and at first it appeared that he had made it. But a replay review indicated that Weatherford had stepped out of bounds a yard too soon, giving the Packers the ball at the Jets’ 36. That led to a Mason Crosby field goal that gave the Packers a lead, and Green Bay went on to a 9-0 victory. So while Weatherford wasn’t ultimately successful, his effort makes him the crazy kicker of the week.
