Warren worries warranted

The Patriots placed unsung hero Ty Warren on injured reserve Friday, ending the season for their starting defensive end. Below are some thoughts on Warren’s injury and what it means to the Pats; you can see how it compares in significance to other training-camp injuries in this post.

Warren, a seven-year veteran, has started all but one game he has played since his second season, and the former first-round pick has proven to be a durable and dependable defensive end in the Patriots 3-4 defense. However, a hip injury that required surgery forced Warren onto injured reserve, which means he will miss the 2010 season. While Warren isn’t a flashy player making a big statistical splash, his reliable presence allows the Pats to be creative in the linebacking corps. With Warren gone, the Patriots could miss Richard Seymour even more in 2010 than they did in 2009, as well as Jarvis Green, another recent departee.
