Suicide pool suggestions – Week 5

We finally got back on the horse last week (thanks, 49ers). Not only that, but we hit on all three of our picks, and our trap to avoid almost became one. So it was a good week in Suicide Pool land. Here are this week’s picks:

1. Philadelphia over Tampa Bay – We’ve established that the Buccaneers aren’t any good, and the Eagles are. Plus, this is the biggest home edge the Eagles will have the rest of the year. So we’ll go ahead and use the Eagles here for another solid, secure win.

2. New York Giants over Oakland – This is another no-brainer, but we’d prefer to save the Giants for later this season, especially with Eli Manning kind of beat up this week. But if you’ve used Philly, the Giants are a great option this week, because they should handle the Raiders easily.

3. Minnesota at St. Louis – The Rams are awful, and the Vikings are good. This looks like a secure win even on the road. But with a home game against the Lions still pending, it’s smarter to save the Vikings until later in the year.

Traps to avoid: Dallas at Kansas City and Seattle over Jacksonville. The Chiefs are bad, but I’m not convinced that the Cowboys are an above-average team. So while you would feel comfortable with a good team winning on the road, Dallas could struggle. I’d just stay away from the Cowboys here just in case they’re not good. In the case of the Seahawks, their home-field advantage looks tempting, but I just don’t know what to make of the Jaguars from week to week. So just stay away there as well.

Week 4: W San Francisco (over St. Louis)
Week 3: L Houston (over Jacksonville)
Week 2: L Jacksonville (over Arizona)
Week 1: W New Orleans (over Detroit)
