Each Monday, we’ll look at 3 teams that are rising, sinking, and floating in our Football Relativity comparison. We’ll update the full comparison tomorrow.
Rise – Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens went to San Diego and won, thanks both to their defense and to their offense, which has shown a lot more punch this year than it did last year. Joe Flacco is developing as a passer, and Todd Heap’s health gives him at least one top-level target. If the Ravens have this kind of offense along with their always-stout defense, they’re going to be awfully tough to beat.
Sink – Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jaguars, who were my flier pick to make the playoffs this year, laid an egg at home against Arizona. They allowed Kurt Warner to complete practically every pass he tried, and the offense did next to nothing until late in the game. The Jaguars have played worse than any other team in their division and must really step up if they’re going to contend in the AFC South this year. There’s just nothing special about the Jags, and when they struggle they’re going to look awful.
Float – Minnesota Vikings – The Vikings are 2-0, but don’t put too much stock in it yet. They have two road wins against two bad teams – Detroit and Cleveland. The Vikings have some great pieces on offense and defense, but we need to see them against top-level competition before we can start to move them into the upper echelons of the league.
